Census to be held in 2027, notification of MHA issues

On Monday (MHA), the Ministry of Home Affairs formally announced that India’s next census would be held in the year 2027.

According to a notification issued by MHA, a copy of which is in the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the center region of Ladakh and the references for the snow-bound, non—-government region of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, on October 1, 2026 will be 00:00 hours.

For the remaining parts of the country, the census reference date will be 00:00 hours on March 1, 2027- (KNO)
