Census to be held in 2027, notification of MHA issues

Srinagar, June 16: On Monday (MHA), the Ministry of Home Affairs formally announced that India’s next census would be held in the year 2027.

According to a notification issued by MHA, a copy of which is in the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the center region of Ladakh and the references for the snow-bound, non—-government region of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, on October 1, 2026 will be 00:00 hours.

For the remaining parts of the country, the census reference date will be 00:00 hours on March 1, 2027.
