New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) President Draupadi Murmu on Sunday greeted all citizens on Diwali and urged them to celebrate the festival of lights in a responsible and eco-friendly manner.
Vice President CP Radhakrishnan also greeted the people on the occasion.
“I urge everyone to celebrate Diwali in a safe, responsible and environment-friendly manner. May this Diwali bring happiness, peace and prosperity to all,” the President said in her message.
“On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all Indians in India and across the world,” he said.
Diwali, one of the most popular festivals of India, is celebrated with great enthusiasm and excitement. This festival symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil.
The auspicious occasion of Diwali, celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country, gives the message of mutual affection and brotherhood. On this day, devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
This festival of lights is also an opportunity for self-reflection and self-improvement. He said that this festival is also an opportunity to help the underprivileged and the needy and bring happiness in their lives.
Vice President Radhakrishnan, in his message, said: “Diwali is a time when the values of generosity, charity and inclusivity – deeply rooted in the ethos of our civilization – shine as we share and extend our support to the needy and deprived sections of the society.”
He said, as we celebrate Diwali, we all should shun negativity and adharma and embrace positivity and dharma – not only for our individual interest but also for the overall progress of the nation.
Radhakrishnan said that, like the lamps collectively lighting up the night sky in every home on this festival, our dedication and commitment should come together to usher in collective development for the country.
He extended his warm wishes to everyone while praying to Goddess Lakshmi to bless everyone with peace, prosperity and good health.
