He will assume office during the meeting of the Council of Member States in Stockholm, Sweden on December 3, 2025. As Chairman, Chief Election Commissioner Will preside over all Council meetings in 2026.

According to a statement from the Election Commission, India’s experience in conducting the world’s largest elections will be leveraged to influence IIDEA’s international agenda.
“This collaboration will strengthen knowledge-sharing, strengthen professional networks among EMBs and support evidence-based global electoral reforms,” it said.
Founded in 1995, International IDEA (IIDEA) is an intergovernmental organization committed to strengthening democratic institutions and processes around the world. The organization, which currently has 35 members and the United States and Japan are observers, works to promote inclusive, flexible and accountable democracy.
India, a founding member of International IDEA, has consistently contributed to its governance and democratic initiatives. As the world’s largest electorate, with almost a billion voters and well-established and recorded transparent election processes, India will work to share its best practices with EMBs around the world during the year.
ECI’s training institute – India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) and IIDEA will collaborate on research projects, workshops and joint programs that will further improve global preparedness to deal with issues such as voter distrust, electoral violence and disinformation.
IIIDEM has been a global center for training of election officials since its inception, having signed MoUs with 28 countries and training 3,169 officials from 142 countries around the world. under Gyanesh KumarLed by ICICI Bank, International IDEA and ECI will document and disseminate ECI’s technical and administrative innovations and best practices globally.
