CEC Gyanesh Kumar to Receive Iit Kanpur’s Alumni Award

New Delhi, 24 September (IANS) Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar has been selected for the prestigious Representation Alumni Award (DAA) 2025 prestigious by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, which is the highest recognition of the institute for its alumni.

In a formal communication, IIT Kanpur Director Prof.. Manindra Aggarwal reported respect to Kumar, described it as his “extraordinary qualification” and recognition of “exemplary professional achievements”. Kumar, who graduated in Civil Engineering from IIT Kanpur in the 1980s, currently heads India’s Election Commission.

The special alumni Award (DAA) institute of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is the highest award given to its alumni for recognition of the achievements of extraordinary qualifications to its alumni. From IIT Kanpur, I am very happy to inform you that for the Governors of IIT Kanpur, (DAA) for the year 2025, ”Aggarwal wrote on 23 September in a letter addressed to the CEC.

“Please accept my heartfelt greetings when you are selected to the prestigious alumni award 2025. We feel proud of your achievements and are convinced that you will excel in all the efforts you will also do in the future, which you will also do.”

The award ceremony will take place on Sunday, November 2, 2025 with the 66th Foundation Day celebrations of IIT Kanpur. Kumar and his family have been invited to the campus to get personally honor.

Pro. Ame Karkare, Dean of Resources and Alumni, is named as coordinator for the event and will share a detailed program schedule with the CEC.

The 1988 batch Kerala cadre IAS officer Kumar took over as the 26th Chief Election Commissioner of India in February 2024.

Over the years, he has organized several major assignments, including the secretary in the Ministry of Cooperation, and played an important role in electoral reforms and administrative innovations.

The DAA 2025 conference connects Kumar’s prestigious career to public service, placed among select alumni who brought Laurel to IIT Kanpur.
