Vijay reached the heavily barricaded CBI office at 11:29 am in a black Range Rover and left from there at around 6:15 pm. The agency indicated that the interrogation was not over and they would be called again for further clarification.

According to sources quoted by PTI, initially the CBI had asked Vijay to appear on Tuesday. The actor-politician requested more time citing the Pongal festival and the agency agreed, with a new date expected after the festival.

During interrogation, investigators asked Vijay to narrate the sequence of events of September 27, 2025, including his late arrival, the growing crowd and his decision to leave as the situation worsened.

The officers also inquired whether he was aware of the overcrowding, the expected crowd, the announcements made during the program and the lathicharge by the police. Vijay was not confronted with any other witness during Monday’s session.

Sources said Vijay said that TVK is not responsible for the tragedy. “To avoid further tragedy, he left the venue,” party sources quoted him as saying. He also denied allegations that his late arrival had led to chaos.

Earlier, Tamil Nadu Police had blamed the “extreme delay” in their arrival, citing lack of food, drinking water and toilet facilities as the reason for the worsening of the situation. Vijay described these claims as a “conspiracy” by the ruling DMK, which the party has denied.
