Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet in the primary teachers’ recruitment corruption case, alleging that several job aspirants were denied teaching posts despite paying substantial sums of money to influential persons, sources in the probe agency confirmed on Wednesday.
The central probe agency’s chargesheet filed before a local court claimed that ‘fake interviews’ were conducted for job seekers who allegedly paid money. The agency made these specific allegations against Trinamool Congress MLA Manik Bhattacharya and former party leader Vibhas Adhikari.
Giving details about the working of the alleged mechanism, CBI sources claimed that the officer allegedly collected crores of rupees from job seekers on behalf of Bhattacharya.
CBI has recently filed a charge sheet in the Bankshall Court in the primary teacher recruitment corruption case.
According to the document, agents linked to Vibhas Adhikari were deployed across the state to collect money from job aspirants. The money collected by these agents was allegedly sent to Bhattacharya through this close associate, Adhikari.
Ratna Chakraborty, former secretary of the West Bengal Primary Education Board, is also named in the charge sheet. The CBI said in the charge sheet that he acted on the instructions of Bhattacharya in cases related to alleged irregularities.
It may be recalled that Bhattacharya had served as the chairman of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education, while Adhikari was a former Trinamool Congress president of Nalhati Block II in Birbhum district of the state.
Ratna Chakraborty was the Secretary of the Board of Primary Education during Bhattacharya’s tenure. The CBI alleged that the three accused were closely involved in the primary teacher recruitment scam.
Bhattacharya was earlier arrested in connection with the case and is currently out on bail. The officer appeared before the CBI several times in the same case. He was recently arrested for operating a fake police station in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
