New Delhi, Nov 20 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an absconding accused linked to the sensational double murder in Abu Dhabi in 2020, officials said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Shamim KK, was caught from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, after evading investigators for years since the case was first registered in Kerala.
According to the CBI, Shamim was absconding since Kerala Police Case No. 280/2022, locally known as Shafa Sharif Murder Case, was registered on May 10, 2022.
Following his disappearance, a Look Out Circular (LOC) was issued, and the court later split the proceedings against him, registering it separately as CP No. 4/2025.
After the Kerala High Court transferred the investigation in crime number 422/2022 to Nilambur Police Station, the CBI formally took over the investigation on November 3, 2022.
The case pertains to the murder of two Indian nationals – Haris Thatthamma Parambil and Dancy Antony – who were found dead in their Abu Dhabi flat on March 5, 2020.
Investigators said Haris, who worked as a business consultant in Abu Dhabi, had developed a friendship with key accused Shaibin Ashraf.
However, tensions rose between them due to alleged jealousy and business rivalry.
“The deceased Harris was doing business consultancy in Abu Dhabi and Shaibin Ashraf (accused) became his friend,” the CBI said in its press note.
It said, “Due to jealousy and business rivalry, accused Shaibin Ashraf hatched a criminal conspiracy with other accused persons to kill Harris and usurp his business and savings.”
The CBI investigation revealed that Shaybin conspired with several others to eliminate Haris and gain control over his business interests and financial assets.
As part of the conspiracy, Shaybin allegedly financed the travel and stay of co-accused persons in Gulf countries to carry out the murders.
The press notes that Harris and Dancy, who lived together in a flat, were murdered on March 5, 2020, with conspirators attempting to present the deaths as a double suicide.
After a detailed investigation, the CBI filed a charge sheet on October 10, 2024, against Shaybin and seven other accused persons, including Shamim, who has now been apprehended.
After completion of investigation, charge sheet was filed on 10 October 2024 against accused Shaibin Ashraf and absconding accused Shamim KK and other 07 accused persons.
