'Can't pay attention to country immersed in red': India on Pakistan at UN

India’s response came in the 55th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council

Exercising the ‘right of reply’ at the high-level segment of the 55th regular session of the UN Human Rights Council on Wednesday, First Secretary Anupama Singh said that with regard to Pakistan’s prolonged mention of India, it is very regrettable. That the Council platform was once again misused to openly propagate false allegations about India.

He said, “With respect to the broader context of India’s standoff with Pakistan, we note that it is extremely unfortunate that the Council’s forum has once again been misused to make patently false allegations against India.”

“The entire Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh is an integral and inalienable part of India, and the constitutional measures taken by the Government of India to ensure socio-economic development and good governance in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir are internal matters.” for India. Pakistan has no right to speak on India’s internal affairs.”

Describing Pakistan’s human rights record as “really disappointing”, the First Secretary said, “A country that has institutionalized the systemic oppression of its own minorities and whose human rights record is really disappointing is commenting on India, Which is clearly making great progress in achieving that.” Economic progress and social justice are not only ironic but also distorted.”

“A vivid example was the large-scale brutality committed against the minority Christian community in the city of Jaranwala in Pakistan in August 2023, when 19 churches were destroyed and 89 Christian houses were burned. Three, a country that is recognized by the UNSC “Commenting on India, which hosts sanctioned terrorists and even celebrates them, whose pluralistic ethos and democratic credentials are exemplary to the world, is an affront to everyone,” he further said.

Ms Singh also said that the government has failed to serve the genuine interests of its citizens, and added that Pakistan sponsors terrorism around the world.

“We can no longer pay attention to a country that speaks of it as red in the blood of terrorism sponsored around the world; in the red of its debt-ridden national balance sheet; and in the red of its shame The drowning speaks to the people’s feeling that their government has failed to meet their genuine interests,” he concluded.

The 55th regular session of the United Nations Human Rights Council is being held from 26 February to 5 April.

India had said in August last year that an environment free from terror and hostility is necessary for normal relations with Pakistan.

Responding to questions after the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif expressed his desire for talks with India, the External Affairs Ministry had said that India wants normal relations with all its neighboring countries including Pakistan.

A spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs had said, “We desire normal neighborly relations with all our neighbors including Pakistan. This requires an environment free from terror and hostility.”
