Canadian applying for a Nexus card can no longer choose a 'X' penis marker

Canadian renewal or application for Nexus Travel Card can no longer select an X gender marker, following an executive order by US President Donald Trump, who says that the US government will only recognize male and female sexes.

The change was impacted in February 2025.

A spokesperson of the Canada Border Services Agency says that the new applicant and people renewing their membership can apply with the “X” gender identifier using a Canadian passport, but their Nexus membership must select “male” or “woman” for their Nexus membership.

The spokesperson says the identity of the current members will be valid by the Nexus card “male” or “female” other than the penis.

Nexus membership is valid for five years and to cross the border between Canada and the United States.

A spokesman for the Canada Border Services Agency says that during the US share management of the Canada and Nexus program, the application process is placed on an American system operated by the US Customs and Border Security.
