Ottawa – Ottawa says Washington worked to align its flight security rules in the US after leaving a rule, in which passengers needed to extract their shoes during safety screening.
US Homeland Security Secretary Christie NoM announced on Tuesday that passengers at American airports no longer needed their shoes as the authorities have discovered other ways to protect the passengers.
Canada does not require passengers domestic or non-US destinations to take off their shoes for screening, unless a security officer is required.
But those flying to the US need to remove their shoes through pre-eligible classes of Canadian airports.
The US Transportation Security Administration introduced the No-Soes Rules about five years after Richard Reid, which was infamous as a “shoe bomber”, tried to trigger explosives hidden in his shoes in Paris in Miami’s flight in 2001.
Transport Canada says that in a statement it will “work with the Transport Safety Administration to ensure the requirements.”
