Canada condemns Hong Kong officials after the ongoing warrant for foreign activists

Web Desk, 27/07/202527/07/2025

Ottawa-Canadian government is condemning Hong Kong law enforcement officers after issuing rewards and warrants for 19 pro-democracy workers, some of whom live in Canada.

In a joint statement, Federal Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Public Safety Minister Gary Anandsangari said on Saturday that Canada describes Hong Kong as an attempt “What describes as an attempt to operate international repression abroad.”

Hong Kong police on Friday announced a warrant and award by Hong Kong Police for “suspected violations” of their National Security Act for their roles in promoting self -determination in the Chinese Special Administrative Area.

Some of the activists nominated, including Canadian Victor Ho, already faced a warrant arising out of an announcement from Hong Kong in December and have a reward of HK $ 1 million for information for their arrest.

“(China) (China )’s international repression (China )’s transnational suppression (is very toxic and dangerous to use expression and speech, () will help () to attract more attention to the international community.”

Ho said that he was not surprised to hear his name again in the new warrant list, and the best policy on handling the situation is “to keep business everyday forever.”

The new list of 19 people added at least three other Canadian residents to the list with HK $ 200,000 prizes, including Vancouver-based activist Keng K-Y.

Keng said that when he is concerned about his safety, he does not plan to stop his work in the Hong Kong Democratic movement as he has already been arrested nine times and has been jailed twice for his participation before going to Canada.

“This is very important for us because it is our dream,” Keng said about the pro -democracy movement. “And we have to do what Hong Kong’s democracy should be done.

“I think it’s really important for me and every Hong Kong.”

Hong Kong police said in its announcement that they are calling those in the desired list who are asking to return themselves and turn themselves instead of “making more mistakes”, but Keng said that they had no plans to do so.

Ho agreed that she is not worried about her personal security and has all cut into contact with Hong Kong family members since last year, and Global Affairs Canada has reached to find out how many people in the country are being targeted.

In his joint statement, Anand and Anandsangari criticized the warrant and said that Canada stands in solidarity with other “international partners, whose citizens and residents have also been influenced by new development, calling it” the work of transnational repression “.

His statement said, “The National Security Act in Hong Kong included people with a close relationship of Canadian and Canada yesterday under the Beijing-Lagan National Security Act in Hong Kong.”

“Canada repeats its previous calls to cancel this law, which violates Hong Kong’s international human rights obligations, and withdraws all related warrants and reward.”

Back in December, Ho replied in a Facebook post that the desired list declared in her name is in the form of “Best Christmas Present”.

“A Canadian citizen like me … has protected the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom, and exercised his right to freedom of speech,” Ho said, who is the former editor-in-chief of the Sing Tao Daily Newspaper.

Ho launched a plan in Canada to choose an informal “Hong Kong Parliament” in 2022, and the Facebook page of the organizers says that the voting wrapped in June and a total of 15,702 votes.
