Calcutta wants a comprehensive report on funds for victims of HC Murshidabad violence

Kolkata, September 25 (IANS) The Calcutta High Court on Thursday directed the District Magistrate of Murshidabad to file a comprehensive report on funds for the victims of communal violence, which took place earlier this year in Murshidabad district, for which it was described as to whom and how the money was allocated.

The Division bench of the acting Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court Samen Sen and Justice Raja Basu Chaudhary ordered the counsel of the petitioners to submit the names of the victims, who have not yet been compensated or rehabilitated within a fortnight. The District Magistrate has been asked to verify the said list.

The court further said that if there is any complaint about compensation, the plaintiff will inform the District Magistrate within 14 days. The state will report on compensation and rescue operations.

The court also asked about the situation of houses in the area. The state presented before the court that a total of Rs 3.39 crore has been paid as compensation. About 283 families have received this compensation and Rs 1.2 lakh has been paid for each damaged house. About 119 houses have been destroyed.

However, Chief Justice Samen Sen wanted to know if the entire amount has been used. Hearing arguments from both sides, the court sought a comprehensive report on funds for the victims. The case has been posted for hearing on 20 November.

It can be noted that on 17 September, the Calcutta High Court criticized the state government for delaying compensation to families affected by communal violence in Murshidabad.

The judges demanded that the state government provide a clear time for compensation and a detailed rehabilitation plan for the affected families. He warned that continuous delay in providing relief can increase the pain of the victims and can increase communal tension in the already unstable Murshidabad region.

In April this year, there were prominent situations like communal violence and riot after protests against areas like Sati, Dhulian, Raghunathganj and Samserganj among others, areas like Sati, Dhulian, Raghunathganj and Samserganj.

Many shops and houses owned by Hindus were destroyed and some Hindu religious establishments were also barbaric. The worst affected place was the village of Jafarabad in the Samsamganj region, where a father and son, Hargobindo Das and Chandan Das, were hacked by the rioters.

Communal tension disappeared on 8 April. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) were deployed on the night of 12 April, after the order of a special division bench of the Calcutta High Court, was specially designed to hear the case of Murshidabad violence.

Ordering CAPF Personiogenesis, the Special Division Bench noticed that the situation in Murshidabad would not be so serious that the state government had decided to deploy central forces first.
