Srinagar, June 18: Jammu and Kashmir cabinet called a meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar on Wednesday evening, during which it discussed the Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) report on reservation policy. The report, which has recently shaken a lot of political and public debate in recent weeks, was not approved or rejected, but referred to the Law Department for the legal examination.
A senior cabinet minister cited by a local news agency confirmed that the government had not taken a final decision on the recommendations made in the report. The minister said, “The cabinet made a detailed discussion on the CSC report about the reservation policy. After discussion, it was decided to send the report to the Law Department for the Legal Opinion.”
He also clarified that no specific timelines have been set for the return of the report. “The report will be brought back to the cabinet for the final decision only after the legal veating is completed,” he said.
Apart from the reservation issue, the cabinet also reviewed the tourism scenario prevalent in the valley. Sources said that the meeting includes a discussion on measures to revive the tourism sector, which saw a decline in the footfall after the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
Preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, including logistics and healthcare arrangements, were also taken in the meeting. The annual pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on 3 July.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and lasted for more than an hour.
