New Delhi: Under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the mission for Antrinabhta in pulses with a financial outlay of Rs 11,440 crore.
The landmark initiative will be implemented in a period of six years from 2025–26 to 2030-31 with the aim of promoting domestic production and achieving self-sufficiency in pulses.
According to an official statement, the missions of pulses are expected to benefit 2 crore farmers with 100 percent assurance of Masur pulses, with better seeds, post -harvesting infrastructure, post -harvesting infrastructure and 100 percent assurance of Masur pulses on minimum support price over the next 4 years.
India has special significance in crop systems and diets in pulses. India is the world’s largest producer and consumer of pulses. Along with rising income and standard of living, consumption of pulses has increased. However, domestic production has not kept pace with demand, leading to an increase of 15–20 percent in the imports of pulses.
To provide better varieties widely, 126 lakh quintal certified seeds will be distributed to the growing farmers, which will cover 370 lakh hectares by 2030-31.
The mission wants to expand the area under pulses by an additional 35 lakh hectares by targeting rice -followed areas and other diverse lands, supported to promote intercropling and crop diversification. For this, 88 lakh seed kits will be distributed to farmers for free.
To reduce dependence on this import, to meet rising demands, maximize production and increase farmers’ income, in the budget of FY 2025-26, the 6-year “mission for Atamnirta in pulses was announced in the budget of FY 2025-26. Mission will adopt a comprehensive strategy covering seed systems, field expansion, purchase and price stability.
Emphasis will be emphasized on developing and transmitting the latest varieties of pulses which are productivity, insect-resistant and high in climate-length. To ensure regional suitability, multi-place testing will be done in major pulse-growing states.
By 2030-31, the mission is expected to expand the area up to 310 lakh hectare under pulses, increase production by 350 lakh tonnes and increase yield by 1130 kg/hectares. With productivity benefits, the mission will generate significant employment.
In addition, to ensure availability for premium quality seeds, the state will prepare a five -year rolling seed production schemes. Breeder seed production will be oversee by the ICAR Foundation, and certified seed production will be done by state and central level agencies, and seed authentication, traceability and holistic inventory (SATHI) portal will be closely tracked through the portal.
It will be supplemented by the convergence to promote soil health programs, sub-missions on agricultural mechanization, balanced fertilizer use, plant protection, and wide performance by ICAR, KVK and State Agriculture Departments.
The capacity building of farmers and seed growers will be taken through structured training programs to promote permanent techniques and modern techniques.
To strengthen markets and price chains, the mission will help develop the infrastructure after cuts, including 1,000 processing units, which can reduce crop losses, improve price joints and increase the income of the farmer. A maximum of Rs 25 lakh subsidy will be available for processing and installation of packaging units.
The mission will adopt a cluster-based approach to the specific requirements of each cluster, which will have to intervene. This will enable more effective allocation of resources, increase productivity, and promote geographical diversification of pulse production.
A major feature of the mission will be to ensure the maximum purchase of TUR, URAD, and lentils under the price support scheme (PSS) of PM-Asha. NAFED and NCCF will purchase 100 percent in the participating states for the next four years, which register with these agencies and enter agreements.
Additionally, to protect the trust of the farmer, the mission will install a mechanism for monitoring global pulse prices.
The mission wants to achieve the goal of self -reliance (self -sufficiency) in pulses, reduces import dependence and preservations valuable foreign currency by promoting farmers’ income. This mission will also earn significant environmental benefits in the form of climate flexible practices, improve soil health and produce producer of crop falling areas.
