Cabinet approves 57 new Kandria Vidyala with more than Rs 5,862 crore

New Delhi: To facilitate the educational requirements of the wards of the central government employees, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the inauguration of 57 new Kandria Vidyalais (KVS) under the civilian field across the country on Wednesday, which spread over a period of more than Rs 5,862 crore.

This includes the capital expenditure component of Rs 2,585.52 crore (approx) and operating expenditure of Rs 3,277.03 crore (approx).

In these 57 KVs, 20 are proposed to be opened in districts where no KV is currently present despite a significant number of central government employees.

In addition, 14 KVs are proposed in aspirational districts, 4 kV in leftist extremism (LWE) districts and 5 kV in NER/mountainous areas.

With the first approval of 85 kV, the quick proposal responds to the high demand of KV, balanced by the PAN-India expansion.

CCEA approved the remaining seven KV sponsored by home affairs and the remaining 50 by the State/UT officials.

The administrative structure to implement the project will require construction of positions with criteria to run a full KV with a capacity of about 1,520 students. Therefore, according to CCEA, 86,640 students will benefit.

A full KV (from Balvatika to class 12) provides employment to 81 people, and accordingly, with the approval of 57 new KVs, a total of 4,617 direct permanent employment opportunities will be created.

The construction and related activities associated with the increase of various facilities in all KV are likely to create employment opportunities for many skilled and unskilled workers.

The government approved the KVS plan in November 1962 to provide educational facilities of uniform standard across the country, in which the educational requirements of the wards of the central government, including defense and paramilitary forces, to meet the educational needs of the wards of the central government. As a result, the “Central School Organization” was launched as a unit of the Ministry of Education, the Union Government.
