Buckingham Palace adds sadness to Prince Harry’s return to Britain with new decision

Buckingham Palace has compounded Prince Harry’s emotional distress with a significant development during his return to the UK.

The Duke experienced harsh rejection as several members of the royal family gathered with King Charles at an event at Buckingham Palace this afternoon. Attendees included Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, the Duchess of Edinburgh and Princess Anne.

The gathering coincides with Harry’s Invictus event at St Paul’s Cathedral today.

The Duke of Sussex will give a speech at a ceremony to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. He founded the sporting event in 2014 when he was a working member of the royal family.

No senior members of the monarchy are expected to attend the event at St Paul’s Cathedral.

On Tuesday, Prince Harry confirmed in a statement that he will not meet King Charles during his visit to the UK this week.

A spokesperson for Prince Harry told GB News: “In response to numerous inquiries and continued speculation as to whether the Duke will meet his father in the UK this week, unfortunately due to Her Majesty’s full schedule this will not be possible.

“Of course the Duke understands the diary of his father’s commitments and various other priorities and hopes to meet him soon.”

King Charles and Prince Harry last saw each other in person in February 2024, following the monarch’s cancer diagnosis.

The royals met for 45 minutes at Clarence House but Harry did not meet Prince William.

King Charles returned to public-facing duties last week when he visited a cancer center with Queen Camilla.

Prince Harry is expected to stay in the UK for a few days before flying to Nigeria to embark on an unofficial royal tour with Meghan Markle.

The Duchess of Sussex will fly from the US to Nigeria later this month to attend a series of engagements with Prince Harry.
