New Delhi: As the nomination process for the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections began, BSP Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Gautam on Friday reaffirmed his party’s independent stand and announced that the first batch of candidates will be released soon.
“Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has earlier said that it will contest with full strength on all seats across the state and its preparations are complete,” Gautam told IANS. “The party’s first list of candidates is expected to be released today, which will include around 100 seats,” he said.
His comments come on a day when candidates are filing nominations for 121 assembly constituencies across 18 districts, as political activities intensify across Bihar ahead of voting on November 6.
When pressed about the possibility of an alliance with the NDA, Gautam clearly said: “We do not have any alliance with anyone. Bahujan Samaj Party is an independent party with its own ideology, which is not aligned with the beliefs of any other party. Therefore, we are not making any alliance or partnership with anyone.”
The first phase of Bihar elections has officially entered the nomination phase. Candidates from Patna, Vaishali, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda and other major districts are submitting their papers. Election Commission of India has released the notification for 121 seats in the first phase. Various political parties are fast finalizing their ticket allocation and strategies.
Recent reports have confirmed that the NDA alliance is expected to conclude its seat-sharing arrangement within a day or two, with BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal also confirming the same. Meanwhile, allies like JD(U) have called for unity and finalizing internal talks.
In a separate and slightly surprising comment, Gautam addressed the incident of him trying to throw a shoe, targeting Chief Justice of India BR Gavai: “The shoe was not actually thrown; he picked it up only with the intention of throwing it. But such actions are highly condemnable. When it comes to the Chief Justice of India, the highest constitutional authority after the President, such actions by a mentally disturbed person The behavior cannot be tolerated or condoned. This act should be strongly condemned. And I strongly believe that there should be a CBI investigation into this matter to find out who was behind it.”
