Agartala, Oct 27 (IANS) Border Security Force (BSF) Special Director General (SDG), Eastern Command, Mahesh Kumar Agarwal on Monday reviewed the operational preparedness and key strategic matters of the Border Security Forces.
A BSF spokesperson said senior IPS officer Aggarwal arrived in Agartala on Monday on a three-day visit and was later briefed by Tripura Frontier Inspector General Alok Kumar Chakraborty on operational preparedness and key strategic matters.
On his arrival at BSF Tripura Frontier Headquarters here, SDG BSF was given a Guard of Honour. Agarwal met Tripura Governor Indrasen Reddy Nallu, Chief Minister Manik Saha, Director General of Police Anurag and Chief Secretary JK Sinha at the Raj Bhavan and discussed various border-related issues.
“During these meetings, the current security scenario and various issues of the state of Tripura were discussed,” the spokesperson said.
He said that as part of his itinerary, the SDG BSF will visit several units deployed on the border to assess the ground situation and interact with field commanders and troops.
The objective of his visit is to strengthen operational efficiency and boost the morale of BSF personnel.
“To study the ground situation, Agarwal will visit several parts of the India-Bangladesh border during his three-day visit to Tripura,” a BSF spokesperson said.
Another BSF official said that since the violence in Bangladesh started in June-July last year, especially after the fall of the Awami League government led by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5, 2024, the para-military forces (BSF) have increased vigil along the International Border and intensified their dominance.
Tripura, which has an 856 km long border with Bangladesh, is surrounded by the neighboring country on three sides, making the northeastern state very vulnerable and vulnerable to cross-border migration issues.
Barring a few stretches, most of the border was fenced to prevent smuggling, cross-border crimes, infiltrators and illegal activities across the border by enemy elements.
