Jaisalmer, Oct 30 (IANS) Security agencies have been put on high alert after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel caught a suspicious person roaming near the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district. Officials gave this information on Thursday.
According to sources, the man, identified as Mohammad Iqbal (around 40), a resident of Araria district of Bihar, was caught during routine patrolling by BSF troops in Murar border area.
He was allegedly roaming suspiciously near the restricted border area.
A BSF team immediately detained Iqbal and conducted preliminary interrogation at the spot.
“The man failed to present any valid identity document or permission to stay in the sensitive area,” a source said. He said his answers raised further suspicions.
After initial questioning, BSF handed over Iqbal to Shahgarh police for further investigation.
Officials said police have launched a detailed investigation to find out how he reached the highly restricted area without being stopped beforehand.
“Their background, travel route and possible motives are being thoroughly investigated,” a police source said, describing the case as extremely sensitive from a national security perspective.
Intelligence agencies have joined the investigation to trace Iqbal’s possible contacts and communication networks.
Their mobile phones, call records and digital devices are being examined for possible links or suspicious communications. Sources said Iqbal’s presence so close to the international border has raised concerns about possible cross-border connections or reconnaissance activity.
“Given the proximity to the Pakistan border, such incidents are taken very seriously,” a source said.
Authorities have tightened security in nearby villages and increased border patrolling to prevent further infiltration.
The Border Security Force (BSF) is the primary border security organization of India, responsible for securing the country’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Established in 1965, BSF operates under the Ministry of Home Affairs. It plays an important role in preventing infiltration, smuggling and maintaining peace and vigilance in sensitive border areas.
