Kolkata, Nov 5 (IANS) The Border Security Force (BSF) and West Bengal Police have finally reached a mutual settlement over the clash between the soldiers of the two forces over the custody of Phensedyl (a banned cough syrup) seized in Chapra in Nadia district on Tuesday night.
On the one hand, the Krishnanagar police district, under whose jurisdiction the clash site in Chhapra falls, had released the BSF jawan, who was detained by the police on Tuesday night, without registering any case against him.
On the other hand, it has been mutually agreed between the two forces that 1,753 bottles of Phensedyl seized on Tuesday night will remain in the custody of Krishnanagar police district.
Confirming the development, VSF South Bengal Frontiers Deputy Inspector General (Public Relations) Neelotpal Pandey told media persons that the misunderstanding between the two forces has been resolved.
He also confirmed that personnel of both the forces suffered minor injuries after the unfortunate incident on Tuesday night. “The matter has now been resolved mutually,” Pandey said.
Sanjaykumar Meetkumar Makwana, Additional Superintendent (Headquarters) of Krishnanagar police district, said that two policemen injured in the clash on Tuesday night have been given initial treatment.
On Tuesday evening, some packets were being unloaded from a car on Krishnanagar-Karimpur state highway near Seemanagar area of Chhapra police station area.
When local residents opened the packets, they found a large quantity of banned cough syrup ‘Phensadyl’ in them. The local people immediately informed the Chapra police station about the matter.
Officers from Chhapra police station immediately reached the spot. He confiscated the banned cough syrup and took it in his car. At the same time BSF jawans of Seemanagar 32 battalion reached the spot. BSF wanted to take possession of the seized banned cough syrup. But the police refused to hand them over citing rules. This led to an argument between both the parties. After this a fight started between them. More policemen and a BSF team reached the spot to control the situation.
