BSF arrested smuggler along the India-B’Desh border, seized gold at a price of Rs 80.55 lakh

Kolkata: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have arrested a smuggler and seized six gold biscuits from their possession along with the Indo-Bangalung border in Nadia district of West Bengal.

A senior official said that the weight of gold is 719.2 grams and its value is about 80.55 lakh rupees.

BSF has been successful in thwarting several gold smuggling efforts in the last few weeks. Many smugglers have been arrested and crores of seized gold.

“32 BN BSF soldiers, below the border of South Bengal, from Banpur Border Outpost, had obtained reliable intelligence inputs to smuggle gold from Bangladesh. A strategy was worked on and two groups of jeans covered in dense mangoes and banana orchards near the border.”

“Around 8.30 pm, a similar number of two Indians and Bangladeshi smugglers was seen from both sides of the border. Bangladeshi smugglers threw small plastic packets across the fence to their Indian counterparts. Arrested smugglers.

The smuggler was questioned and data from mobile phones is being collected to learn more about the network involved in gold smuggling.

Later, gold and smugglers were handed over to the concerned department for further legal action. The official appreciated the efforts of the soldiers and said that BSF youths are fully capable, not only to protect the borders of the country, but also prevent criminal activities such as trafficking, infiltration and human trafficking.
