New Delhi:
Bharat Rashtra Samiti leader K Kavita has written a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation saying that she will not be able to appear before it tomorrow for questioning in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam. In his letter, he cited several “urgent” public engagements and a petition pending in the Supreme Court.
This is the second time that the BRS leader, who is also the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao, is not attending the summons for questioning. The central agency last interrogated him in December 2022.
In March last year, he had appealed to the Supreme Court seeking relief from interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate. The apex court has stayed the case and exempted him from interrogation till a verdict is reached.
CBI has now sent summons under Section 41A of CrPC, violation of which can lead to his arrest.
Ms Kavita said in her letter that there was “no logic, reason or background” as to why summonses were sent under this section.
“The present notice under Section 41A of CrPC is in stark contrast to the earlier notice under Section 160 of CrPC, which was issued to me on 02.12.2022 and which has already been complied with,” he wrote.
“Since I have no role in any of the allegations, the CBI no longer requires my assistance in this matter as the matter is fully sub judice before the court,” the letter said.
