Hyderabad, Oct 30 (IANS) Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) has pulled up Telangana Chief Minister A for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) while campaigning for the by-election on Jubilee Hills assembly seat. A complaint has been filed against Revanth Reddy with the Election Commission of India (ECI).

BRS alleged that the Chief Minister tried to influence film workers by making promises during a meeting with them in the constituency.

A delegation of BRS leaders led by former minister and senior BRS MLA Gangula Kamlakar submitted the complaint to Chief Electoral Officer Sudarshan Reddy. The opposition party demanded that the Chief Minister be removed from the post of Congress’s star campaigner for MCC violation and he be barred from participating in any other campaign.

The party noted that the constituency includes several thousand cine industry workers who form a significant portion of the voters.

BRS leaders told the Election Commission that during a so-called felicitation program organized by the Cine Workers Association on Tuesday, the Chief Minister made several promises and assurances which are prohibited under the MCC.

BRS leaders said that despite prior information and complaint by the party, the Election Commission failed to stop the meeting and thus allowed “gross abuse of official position and state machinery”.

BRS demanded registration of a criminal case against CM Revanth Reddy for violating the MCC and committing electoral offenses under relevant provisions of law.

They also filed a separate complaint against Congress candidate Naveen Yadav for MCC violations and sought his disqualification.

BRS said that during a public interaction on Wednesday, Naveen Yadav made “threatening, derogatory and intimidating” statements against BRS leaders and workers. It said, ‘Congress leaders publicly stated that opposition leaders would be crushed, driven out and taught a lesson.’

BRS demanded that Naveen Yadav be disqualified and barred from contesting or campaigning in the by-election and an FIR be registered against him.

It also urged the Election Commission to provide security to BRS leaders and workers.

Meanwhile, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said that after being in power for two years, the Congress party is waking up to the ground reality.

He was reacting to the Chief Minister’s promises to cine crews and reports of former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s inclusion in the state cabinet.

KTR posted on

“Let me repeat, only when Congress loses its deposit in the Jubilee Hills by-election will they start implementing the 6 guarantees and 420 promises made in 2023. It is time to teach the Congress and its leadership a lesson,” he said.
