Brothers blamed 45,000 kg tobacco border cross smuggling: CBSA

Canadian border officials say Two brothers have convicted several allegations after an attempt to smuggle tobacco in large quantities in the country.

Investigators of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) at Niagra Falls said James and Jason McDafi attempted to smuggle a total of 45,620 kg of contrast tobacco in a commercial truck.

CBSA officials seized tobacco in 2021 and 2022 on three different occasions in 2021 and 2022 at the Queenston-Laviston Bridge at Niagra-on-the-Lake.

They say that as a result of smuggling, an attempt was made to steal about $ 17.5 million in duties and taxes.

Investigators say 53 -year -old James McDafi blamed on 17 June for making false statements under the Customs Act and received two years of probation after two years of arrest.

He says that 53 -year -old Jason McDafi convicted two cases of smuggling under the Customs Act and on May 21, under the Excise Act, two years in two cases of occupation of unstamping tobacco under the Excise Act, two years of house arrest, probation of probation for 12 months, and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

“CBSA officials are committed to disrupt the organized crime by stopping the contrast to enter Canada. By seizing smuggled goods, we prevent income from reuniting in other criminal activities,” Michael Prose, Southern Ontario Region, CBSA said.

“The punishment of these individuals is the result of the hard work of our criminal investigators and border service officers.”
