Crossroad Producer Ann Carley is suing Sony over unpaid profits related to the 2002 teen film.
Film, written by short reese and directed by Tamra Davis, Features Britney Spears in her first starring role.
In the new lawsuit, filed in the New York Supreme Court and overseen by IndependentCarly claims she was “born” concept for motion picture Crossroad “Especially as a major medium for pop star Britney Spears.”
Carly says she put together the creative team and pitched the project to Filmco, which was acquired by Sony. Filmco was purchased by BMG Music soon after its release. CrossroadAnd in 2004 the latter company merged with Sony to form Sony BMG.
She claims that she signed a contract under which she was paid a fixed producer’s fee of $300,000 and was also entitled to 10% of the net profits from the film.

Carly claims she has not been paid the share of profits she is owed, the lawsuit states: “For more than two decades Crossroad‘ releaseThe plaintiffs did not receive any accounting statements or payments from Sony Music or its predecessors.
She says she initially believed the film would not have been profitable, which would explain why she did not receive a statement or payment. However, when Sony announced plans to re-release Crossroad Coincidentally in September 2023 Spears’ memoir released the woman inside meCarly says she questioned him after his missing statements.
The lawsuit states that the same month, Sony Music’s then-executive vice president of business affairs, Dan Zucker, admitted to Carly that her involvement in the film had been “inadvertently overlooked” amid several mergers and corporate restructurings.
When Carly finally provided a statement for the first time in December 2023, she said that Sony claimed that “the film – which cost only ~$11 million to make and grossed over $60 million at the box office – made a ‘net loss’ of $49.7 million.”
They claim that the accounting included “massive, vague allegations” that reduced the film’s revenues to create imaginary “losses”.

She also says that she discovered that other people involved in the film were paid with their profit participation. rhymes informing her that she “was paid such a large sum for her work in the film that she could make a down payment on her own house in the Hollywood Hills.”
Carly is suing for breach of contract, fraud and demanding an accounting. He claims he is owed “at least $12 million in net profits” based on the film’s initial box office returns, DVD sales, and the recent Netflix streaming deal.
She is also requesting interest on delayed payments over 23 years for total compensatory damages of approximately $36 million.
Independent Carly’s lawyers and Sony Music Entertainment have been contacted for comment.
