This is the position of the WBC that refuses to sanction title fights with three-minute rounds for female fighters. This is in contrast to other sanctioning bodies, which will allow their belts to be put on the line if both fighters agree to three-minute rounds.
Promoted by jake paulMost Valuable Promotions, Cameron believes there should be equality between male and female boxers and now he has taken action.
Explaining her decision, Cameron said: “Women’s boxing has come a long way, but there is still progress to be made.
“I have always believed in equality, and that includes the option to fight in the same rounds, equal opportunities and with equal respect. I am proud of my accomplishment in becoming WBC champion, but this is what is right and it is time to take a stand for the future of the sport.”
Due to the WBC’s refusal to sanction three-minute rounds for women’s world title bouts, Cameron has decided to vacate her belt.
In 2023, Amanda Serrano, a prominent name in the sport, joined 20 other high-profile fighters in calling for the adoption of three-minute rounds in title bouts. Shortly after her statement, Serrano vacated her WBC featherweight title, although she has since challenged for the super lightweight version of the championship, facing Katie Taylor.
