British adults gambling in the last month – survey

According to an annual survey by the industry regulator, about half of adults (48%) in Great Britain have gambling in the last four weeks.

Some 2.7% adults scored “8+” at the problem gambling index (PGSI) in 2024 – above 2.5% last year – which is “statistically stable” compared to the first year, Gambling commission found.

The headline figure of gambling in the last month – which is similar to the previous year – falls to 28% when those who only bought tickets for lottery draws were excluded.

Overall, some 42% of adults gambling in the last 12 months had evaluated gambling positively last time, compared to 21% who rated it negatively.

The main reason for winning “Big Money” was the main reason that people (85%) used to gamble, followed by gambling (72%).
