According to official data, Britain’s inflation remained unchanged last month, but the price of food and drink has increased in the fifth consecutive month.
The National Statistics (ONS) office on Wednesday had a rate of consumer price index 3.8 percent in August, which was the same as July. This was the level that most economists expected.
However, the rate of food and drink inflation in August increased to 5.1 percent in August, from 4.9 percent in July, as shopkeepers continued to face high prices for goods on Tils. This marks the rate that the rate has increased in the fifth consecutive month.
ONS chief economist Grant Fitzner said: “The cost of air fares was the main downward driver this month, with an increase in prices a year ago, which was linked to the summer holiday time after a major increase in July.
“It had fallen lower than last year in the increase in prices on the pump and the cost of hotel housing.
“Food price inflation climbed up to the fifth consecutive month, with a small increase in a range of vegetables, cheese and fish items.”
