French The 72-year-old first lady was filmed at the Folies Bergère on Sunday yelling at protesters Who had interrupted a show a day earlier to call actor and artist Arya Abbitton, 51, a “rapist”.
Abbitton was accused of raping a 23-year-old woman in 2021, but the charges were dropped in 2023 and an appeal this year upheld the verdict.
In a video now going viral, Abbitton was heard saying Ms. Macron, wife of President Emmanuel MacronOn Sunday that he was “scared” before going back on stage.
“If there are any stupid people, we will throw them out,” Ms Macron joked. “Especially the masked bandit.”
A spokesman for Ms Macron said: “This exchange should be seen only as a criticism of the radical methods used by those who disrupted Aryeh Abityon’s show on Saturday evening to prevent the artist from performing while wearing a mask.

Four activists from the feminist group Noustouts (“All of Us”) disrupted Abitton’s demonstration on Saturday, wearing masks with the word “rapist” written on their faces. They chanted “Aari abiton rapist” before being thrown out of the room.
Abitten returned to the public eye earlier this year with a show called “Authentic”.
One of the activists, named only as Gwen, said after Sunday’s video emerged: “We are deeply shocked and outraged. The words used speak volumes about her worldview; the political message is extremely shocking.”
Noustouts took to social media to recant the infamy, writing: “Stupid people and proud of it!”
The video was viewed millions of times after it was published online by the French weekly magazine “Publique”.
Other vocal activists lent their support, joining in solidarity with the feminist group. Judith Godreche, a French actor who last year accused film directors of historical abuse, posted on Instagram in response: “I’m an idiot too.”
Clemence Guette, vice-president of the French National Assembly, took to Twitter to blast the French first lady, saying: “Brigitte Macron calls activists gathered in front of the theater where a man accused of sexual violence is performing ‘stupid nonsense’ to call violence, the famous ‘noble cause of a five-year term.’
Mr Macron I promised gender Equality will be the “great national cause” of his presidential term in 2017.
Manon Aubry, an MEP from the left-wing party LA France Insoumise wrote: “It starts by citing women’s rights as ‘the main reason for a five-year term’, and ends with insulting them. It’s time for the Macron couple to go.”
Ms Macron has taken separate legal action against 10 people accused of cyberbullying by spreading malicious rumors about her gender and sexuality online.
