Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed a message of peace to the world at the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. The Prime Minister said at the summit that I would like to express my sincere gratitude to President Putin for organizing today’s excellent meeting. I am very happy that today we meet for the first time as a BRICS family. I would like to extend a warm welcome to the new members and new friends of the BRICS family.
“I congratulate President Putin on his successful tenure as President of Russia over the past year,” the Prime Minister said. My friends, it is at such a time as this that our gathering takes place. When the world is surrounded by challenges such as war, conflict, economic uncertainty, climate change, terrorism and many others. There is a saying in the world that breaks down north and south and east and west.
Inflation prevention, food security, energy security, health security, and water security are topics of priority for all countries. In the era of science and technology, network security, deep fakes, fake news, etc. have become new challenges. Under such a situation, people have a lot of expectations for the BRICS countries.
“BRICS is not a separatist country, but a public interest group”
I believe that BRICS, as a diverse and inclusive platform, can play a positive role on all issues. In this case, our approach should remain human-centered. We should send a message to the world: BRICS is not a separatist country, but a public interest group.
PM Modi: We support dialogue not war
The Prime Minister said we support dialogue and diplomacy, not war, and how we can overcome challenges like COVID-19 together. Likewise, we are fully capable of creating new opportunities for future generations and creating a secure, strong and prosperous future.
To deal with terrorism and terrorist financing, we must unite and cooperate vigorously. There is no room for double standards on such a serious matter. We must take proactive measures to prevent the radicalization of youth in our countries. We must work together to resolve the pending issues at the United Nations regarding the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. Likewise, global rules for cybersecurity, safe and secure AI should be developed.
‘All countries must adhere to the guidelines’
Friends, India is ready to welcome new countries as BRICS partners. All decisions in this regard should be made unanimously and the opinions of the founding members of the BRICS countries should be respected. The guiding principles, standards, norms and procedures we adopted at the Johannesburg Summit should be adhered to by all member and partner countries.
BRICS is an organization willing to keep pace with the times. We should set an example in front of the world and unanimously raise our voices for the reform of global institutions.
