According to police, a 26 -year -old woman was spending time with a friend in Hamilton city on Friday.
Officials say that they received many 911 calls about Gunshots in the field of King Street East and James Street North, just before 5:30 pm.
On arrival, officials say they faced the “chaotic and distressed” scene.
The first victim to be located was a white man who was suffering from a gun bullet. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was treated for non-janleva injuries.
Another hunting, known as 26 -year -old Belinda Sarkodi, was found with a gun pellet wound in the west with King Street.
“Despite life -saving efforts, he was declared dead on the spot,” police said.
At a press conference held on Saturday, DET. SGT. John Obrovac told reporters that Sarkodi recently arrived in Canada from Ghana in 2024 and was living in Hamilton region and working.
“Belinda was an innocent, just going about his day,” he explained. “At the time of the incident, she was spending time with a friend in the downtown core.”
Investigators say Sarkodi has a brother who lives in Manitoba, but there is no other immediate family in the province. In Ghana, his next-jaw has been informed about his death.
“At this time, we believe that the suspect would go to the male victim and target him, although the motive has not yet been determined,” Obrovac said. “There is no information to suggest that the suspect and Belinda Sarkodi were known for each other, or were targeted.”
Police say they are looking for a suspect, described as a white male with a medium construction and brown hair. He was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with a white design on the front side and had a large letter V, dark socks and deep shoes on the back. He also wore a black medical-style face mask.
Investigators say they are in the early stage of collecting video evidence from Jackson Square Shopping Mall where the shooting took place.
“Hamilton police is working diligently to identify and catch the person responsible for this insensitive work of violence of violence,” officials said. “We are committed to using every available resource to bring justice to Belinda and her loved ones.”
