Medical tests revealed the former World Cup winner had a small blood clot in one of his legs, and a subsequent full-body MRI showed his heart was not functioning properly.
Spanish media AS reported The 52-year-old patient was subsequently admitted for emergency surgery to have a catheter inserted, with the entire procedure taking three hours instead of the standard 40 minutes due to “complications”.
AS said the operation was successful and Carlos is “out of danger”, but he will remain under observation for another two days.
Carlos’ representative told AS that he is “fine now.”
The former full-back won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil and won the UEFA Champions League three times with Real Madrid in 1998, 2000 and 2002.
