Bangladesh cricket team head coach Chandika Hathurusingha said that there is no proper T20 tournament in the country and launched a scathing attack on the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The T20 tournament is currently going on but in a recent interview espncricinfo, Hathurusingha said that he sometimes turns off the TV while watching matches and even said that some players in the competition are not of the “required class”. He said the International Cricket Council (ICC) needs to step in and stop the ‘circus’ – a word he used to describe the BPL.

“We [Bangladesh] There is no proper T20 tournament. This feels very strange. Sometimes I switch off the TV when I’m watching BPL. Some players are not even like that [required] Class. I have a big issue with the current system,” Hathurusingha said.

“The ICC needs to step into this. There should be some rules. A player is playing one tournament and then he is playing another tournament. It’s like a circus. Players will talk about opportunities, but that is not correct. People will lose interest. I have lost interest,” Hathurusingha said.

Hathurusingha also pointed out that Bangladesh cricketers are not getting enough practice in key areas like batting in the top 3 and bowling in the death overs. He suggested that there should be another tournament before the BPL to help the development of local cricketers.

“We need a tournament where our players can do things like bat in the top three. Bangladesh bowlers are bowling in the death overs. Otherwise where will we learn these things? We only have one tournament,” Hathurusingha said.

“I suggest we have one more tournament before the BPL. Franchisees do what they want. Some of the best players are not playing. Then how do you expect Bangladesh team to stay ahead of other teams? I am fighting hard,” Hathurusingha said.
