Indore, September 29 (IANS) Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced on Monday that his government would ensure that school children get books and other study materials at cheaper rates from the next educational year in Madhya Pradesh.
Yadav made this statement during an event in Dhar district, where he transferred Rs 489 crore to 20,652 non-government schools, which accepted the students under the Education (RTE) Act under the right to economically weaker sections (EWS).
Addressing the program, Yadav said that the government pays fees for children admitted in private schools under the EWS category, but their parents still have to spend a lot on copies and notebooks in private schools, which also need to be addressed.
“We have taken a proposal that notebooks, copies and other study materials for school children will be available at affordable prices so that every child can study without any disruption,” Chief Minister Yadav said while addressing the program.
Meanwhile, he said that the state government has upgraded the government -run schools and all facilities are being provided to the children, including fees, laptops, bicycles and scooties under various schemes.
In the last educational year 2023-2024, an amount of Rs 489 crore was provided to 20,652 non-government schools as part of reimbursement for admission given to 8.45 lakh children from the economically weaker section under the right to the Education Act.
The grant was provided to non-government or non-aided schools, which have met the criteria to give free admission to minimum 25 percent of children from deprived and weaker sections in admission level classes.
The Chief Minister said, “The fees we are depositing today is not just an amount, but a certain deposit for the bright future of our children. It is an important step towards achieving the future of children.”
Since it implemented ‘Right to Rights’ in 2011-12, according to the Madhya Pradesh government, the state government has benefited about 19 lakh children, the state government has reimbursed Rs 3,000 crore as a fee so far.
On this occasion, Chief Minister Yadav also demonstrated ‘Bhoomi-Pujan’ and inaugurated developmental projects and oversee the distribution of benefits to the beneficiaries under various welfare schemes.
