Bomb Danger Email fails to disrupt Bombay HC proceedings

The Mumbai, Bombay High Court, 19 September (IANS) proceedings took place as Friday, despite an email warning of an adjacent bomb blast in the campus, which was received early in the morning at the official address of the court in the morning.

Later a deception was declared by the police.

Police said this was the second such Hocx Bomb Danger Message received by the High Court in a week.

The danger received on Friday came a day later when a bench headed by Chief Justice Mr. Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad heard an appeal in the 2008 Malegaon blast case in connection with the search of all seven people including former BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur.

On Friday, immediately after the danger email in HC’s official mail inbox, an office employee alerted senior administrative officials. This information was immediately given to the Mumbai Police, who detected their bomb and pressed the disposal squad (BDDS) and Dog Squad in service.

A Mumbai Police official said that a mass comb operation was started to cover the entire campus in South Mumbai, but the search by BDDS personnel did not find objectionable.

Apart from the court, the bomb squad also scanned the waiting area for parking sites and cases for judges’ vehicles, police said.

Police said the High Court Registry, Library and Advocate Chambers were also scanned for potential explosives.

Earlier, on 12 September, Bombay HC received a threat of bomb within a few minutes of the danger similar to being emailed to the Delhi High Court. Both the dangers were cheated after suspending the proceedings to scan the premises.

On the same day, the Supreme Court banned photography and videography using mobile phones inside its high security sector in New Delhi.

In a circular, the Supreme Court empowered security personnel to take photographs or make videos inside the high security sector.

Regulating media activities in the main campus of the Apex court, the circular said, “Media workers will conduct news interviews and live broadcasting at their specified location near the lawn in the lower security sector.”

“In case of violation of guidelines by media personnel, their access to the Supreme Court’s High Security Sector may be restricted for a period of one month,” the circular said.
