New Delhi:
Bollywood actor Neha Sharma’s father Congress leader Ajay Sharma has hinted that she might venture into politics during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Mr. Sharma, an MP from Bhagalpur in Bihar, told reporters that he would support his daughter’s nomination if the Congress gets the Bhagalpur seat in a seat-sharing arrangement between the party and its allies.
“Congress should win Bhagalpur, we will fight and win the seat. If Congress wins Bhagalpur, I want my daughter Neha Sharma to contest as I am already an MP. But if the party wants me to fight , I will do that,” Ajay Sharma said.
Neha Sharma made her debut opposite Emraan Hashmi in Hustler and has since appeared in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, Movies like Tum Bin 2 and Mubarakan. She is also popular on social media for her travel content, with over 21 million followers on Instagram.
Ajay Sharma also said that the Indian alliance will “eliminate” the BJP from Bihar in these elections.
“We will eliminate the NDA in Bihar. This time Bihar will take up the responsibility of ousting Narendra Modi from power,” he said.
The Indian bloc’s seat-sharing talks in Bihar took a hit when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ended ties with the Congress in January and joined forces with the Bharatiya Janata Party.
However, Bharatiya Janata Party (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav said the seat-sharing talks are nearing completion and an official announcement may be made next week.
“Everything will be decided in two or three days. It is now in the final stages. There are some issues with one or two seats, but everything will be resolved,” he said.
The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases from April 19 to June 1. Assembly elections will also be held in four states.
