Bokaro Steel Plant Fire causes four workers burn injuries

Officials said Bokaro, September 28 (IANS) four contractual workers maintained severe burning injuries on Sunday as the Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand caught fire.

The incident occurred when a fire broke out in the steel melting shop -2 (SMS -2) of the first steel plant in the afternoon.

The Injured Persons have been identified as Ranjit Mahata, Brajesh Mahata, Omprakash Mahali and Praveen Kumar.

Sources said that after the incident, all the injured were first taken to the plant medical unit, where they were sent to Bokaro General Hospital after receiving first aid, looking at the nature of burnt injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a crane was picking up a ladder filled with warm metal.

Suddenly, the crane rope broke, and the hot metal spread to the ground. This caused strong flames and surrounded four workers working nearby.

Sources in Bokaro General Hospital said that Ranjit Mahata suffered more than 90 percent of burnt injuries.

Brajesh Mahata and Omprakash Mahali Suffered Around 60 per cent burns, While Praveen Kumar Suffered 45 per century.

All four contractual workers have been admitted to the intensive care unit and are closely monitored by a team of doctors.

On receiving information about the fire incident, the families of the workers reached the spot.

A similar accident occurred in SMS -2 in June this year, in which five contractual workers were injured.

Constituent workers at the steel plant are blaming the management officials for the accident.

They say that such accidents often occur due to neglect of safety standards at the steel plant.

The steel plant management has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.

However, sources say an internal investigation has been initiated in the incident.

Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) located in Jharkhand is an important integrated public sector steel plant that produces flat steel products such as hot rolled and cold rold coils and sheets.

Established in 1964 and starting construction in 1968, it was the first “Swadeshi” (Swadeshi) steel plant in India and is now part of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL).
