BMC Budget 2024-25: Focus on infrastructure projects, allocation more than 10% higher than last year | Updated

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will present its budget for the financial year 2024-25 at its headquarters in Mumbai on Friday. The budget was presented to Civil Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal by the Additional Municipal Commissioner.

Normally, the municipal commissioner submits the budget to the BMC standing committee, but as the term of the corporator ends in March 2022, this is the second year that the municipal body’s budget is presented to the chief executive.

In terms of budget allocation, India’s richest civic body proposed fixed deposits of Rs 5,970 crore last year, accounting for 11% of the total budget of Rs 52,619 crore. This trend is likely to continue this year as well.

Ahead of this, eastern suburbs municipal commissioner Ashwini Bhide will submit the budget estimates of the education department for the next financial year to the administrator-cum-commissioner.

As the BMC unveils its annual budget, here’s what you need to know:

• The total budget allocation for this year is Rs 59,954.75, which is 10.5% higher than last year.
• BMC announced annual education budget of Rs. On Friday morning, it was 3,497.82 for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
• The BMC, in its annual budget for the financial year 2024-25, proposed to provide Modern School Dictionary (English-Marathi) to around 1.70 lakh students in BMC schools of standard 5 to 10.

• The civic body has established a budget of Rs 352 crore for primary schools and Rs 117 crore for secondary schools.
