Kolkata, November 2 (IANS) The BJP has written a letter to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal alleging the appointment of booth level officers (BLOs) affiliated with the Trinamool Congress in Nandigram assembly constituency in East Midnapore district. A party leader gave this information on Sunday.
The party alleged that ruling Trinamool Congress workers or their spouses have been appointed as BLOs to benefit the party in the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
“The ongoing saga of improper appointment of BLOs continues unabated despite bringing it to the notice of the concerned DEO and yours. Once again, we provide you with the list of such improper appointments, in most of the cases where the present BLO is a TMC worker/activist directly or is connected through his/her spouse,” the party wrote in the letter to the CEO.
The BJP claimed that such appointments would impact the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the West Bengal electoral roll by the Election Commission.
“With only a few days left for the counting phase of the SIR, complaints about wrongful appointment of BLOs are continuing, which will vitiate the process. Since elections are due in West Bengal in a few months, there will clearly be no chance of rectifying the mistake committed by a party-affiliated BLO,” the BJP claimed.
In the letter, the party also shared a list of such names and other relevant details about their appointment and demanded that they be removed from their posts for the smooth conduct of the SIR exercise in the state.
“Enclosed are the complaints received by us from Nandigram and Ranaghat, along with evidence of these BLOs having political links with TMC. We urge you to take immediate steps to remove the said BLOs and take appropriate action against the erring EROs and DEOs,” the party said.
The SIR of West Bengal’s voter list has become a bone of contention between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP ahead of the state assembly elections next year.
