Kolkata, October 6 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists and supporters on Monday took out a protest rally in Kolkata to condemn the attack on their party MP Khagan Murmu.

BJP workers took out a procession from West Bengal BJP headquarters to college square and Central Avenue.

He also burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and demanded strong action against those responsible for the attack.

The rally was led by the party’s northern Kolkata leader Tamogna Ghosh.

The BJP staged a sit-in protest to mark its opposition and burnt the tire.

He also took a picture of BJP MP Khagan Murmu after the attack on him.

“There is Trinmool Congress behind this attack. Our (BJP) MPs were seriously injured in the attack. We want strong action against criminals. The Chief Minister should be ashamed that an elected MP is being attacked like this,” Ghosh said.

BJP Maldaha North MP Khagan Murmu and MLA Shankar Ghosh were brutally attacked by miscreants on Monday morning, while on their way to meet landslide-affected people of North Bengal and distribute relief materials.

While Ghosh faced minor injuries, two -time BJP MP Khagen Murmu faced serious injuries on his face and head.

The incident took place in Nagkata in Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal.

The BJP MP was seen covered in blood, in which there was a major injury to the left of his face.

Khagan Murmu was taken to a primary health center for immediate treatment.

The miscreants also stoned BJP vehicles and continued to attack him with slippers, sticks and bricks until they left the area by their security guards.

After the attack, BJP leader and advocate Kudatav Bagchi wrote a letter to Governor CV Anand Bose, in which he urged him to take immediate steps to implement Article 355 of the Constitution in West Bengal.

“Leave the ordinary citizens of opposition spread in West Bengal, ordinary citizens, in the prevailing position today, the elected representatives related to the opposition spread are also not safe in West Bengal. Under the aforesaid situations, while knocking on their discretion, I humbly request the Governor to take immediate steps to the Governor for the housing of Article 355.”
