Bengaluru, Oct 11 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said BJP leaders have presented themselves as those opposing Bengaluru’s development by not attending the first meeting of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), adding that they could have attended it and expressed their views.
He made this comment while talking to the media in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Responding to a question about BJP’s absence at the GBA meeting, Siddaramaiah said that if BJP leaders were really concerned about the city, they would not have skipped the meeting.
He said that the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) acts as a platform for democracy.
He said, “It appears that the BJP opposes administrative decentralization. Bengaluru has developed massively, and it is necessary to divide the city to provide better administration and facilities to the residents – a position the BJP leaders themselves supported earlier. But now, they are opposing it. There is no question of the BJP coming back to power.”
Earlier, he inaugurated the “Hampana 90” literary review program at Gandhi Bhavan, Bengaluru.
Siddaramaiah described Hampana as not only a litterateur but also a writer who wants change in the society.
“Hampana has made his life meaningful by being socially conscious. He is Nagarajayya, the pride of the Kannada people. It is a privilege for me to witness his literary works and life. His life, writings and purposefulness serve as a guide for the society,” the Chief Minister said.
He said Hampana’s contributions went beyond creative writing; As the President of Kannada Sahitya Parishad, he has played an important role in strengthening the Kannada language.
“It is extremely significant that his work has reached the Kannada literary world,” he said.
He said, “Hampana has excelled in all branches of literature, including linguistics, research, children’s literature and literary criticism. Hampana is also a brilliant orator. His contribution has greatly benefited the society. He has worked as a teacher and director of a center for Kannada studies. Though I am not a student of literature, I have developed an affinity with the literary field and am a great admirer of Hampana.”
He wished Hampana to remain in good health for the next many years.
The Chief Minister praised Kamala and Hampana as an extraordinary couple, both of whom have excelled in literary activities and have contributed tremendously to Kannada cultural life.
