BJP methods protest against mandatory Urdu in Naib Tehsildar Recruitment

All BJP MLAs staged a strong protest outside the Civil Secretariat in Jammu, opposing the decision of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir to make Urdu a compulsory subject in the recruitment process for the post of Naib Tehsildar. The protest was led by the Leader of the Opposition at J&K Assembly of J&K and Jammu and Kashmir BJP, SH. Sunil Sharma.

The BJP MLAs condemned the move as discriminatory and unjust, the National Conference led by Omar Abdullah made a deliberate attempt to ignore the aspirations of Jammu and other non-Udu-speaking areas by the government.

Talking to the media, Sunil Sharma said that this policy is to do injustice against eligible candidates, which are otherwise qualified, but are being excluded on the basis of language preference.

“It is not only about language. It is about rights, opportunities and equal treatment. Urdu is one of the official languages of Jammu and Kashmir, but it is not only one. Why should proficiency be mandatory in Urdu when there are many other official languages recognized by the Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir?” Asked Sharma.

BJP MLAs claimed that they had already abolished all peaceful and democratic means. BJP MLAs said, “We presented the memorandum, led the delegation, and even met with the Lieutenant Governor. However, LG acknowledged our concern, he said that the recruitment case comes under the purview of the state government.”

The MLA said that the Chief Minister had earlier assured the representatives of the BJP that the issue would be noticed, but no action was taken. “This betrayal of the public trust has left us to protest,” he said.

The MLA failed to fulfill his original duties and criticized the Chief Minister for allegedly playing the role of the victim card. “Instead of solving people’s problems, he is more concerned about enjoying the privileges of the office. The youth of Jammu and Kashmir are worth a fair and transparent recruitment process, not political manipulation,” he said.

BJP MLAs warned that if the government continues to start the deaf ears for the demands of the people, the protest will increase. Sharma said, “Today’s opposition is a symbolic message. We are ready to agitate to the next level if the NC government has not immediately canceled the need for Urdu language in the recruitment of Naib Tehsildar,” Sharma concluded.
