Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 4 (IANS) Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shobha Surendran on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on senior Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader EP Jayarajan and mocked his recently released autobiography, alleging that it should have been titled “A Thief’s Memoir”.
On Monday, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan released Jayarajan’s autobiography “Ithanante Jeevitham (This Is My Life)” in Kannur.
Surendran reiterated his earlier statement that he had met Jayarajan at Ramanilayam (government guest house in Thrissur).
Taking a dig at the Left leader, she said, “I went there three times and one of those visits was to meet EP Jayarajan. If I had stayed for 24 more hours, the BJP shawl would have been around his neck.”
The BJP leader also vowed to take the defamation case filed by Jayarajan to its conclusion, saying she would ask him to “write the letter K in the court”, a Malayalam idiom meaning a public apology.
Surendran’s comments come a day after Jayarajan, in his autobiography, accused him of trying to get a BJP ticket for his son.
In the book, Jayarajan claims that Surendran met his son in Ernakulam, took his phone number and contacted him repeatedly to discuss political matters.
Responding to the allegation, Surendran said, “Does EP Jayarajan have a machine to read my mind to conclude that the calls were about fielding my son in the elections?”
He reiterated that his visit to Ramanilayam was not unusual and ridiculed veteran CPI-M leader Jayarajan for what he called “concocted political storytelling”.
Surendran said, “If there is a true name for his book, it should be ‘The Autobiography of a Thief’.” BJP workers laughed at this.
Meanwhile, tension is brewing within the CPI-M following the publication of Jayarajan’s autobiography.
There is reportedly resentment in CPI-M circles that Jayarajan has exposed several internal disputes and controversies that the organization had kept under wraps.
Sources said the dissatisfaction largely stems from the fact that Jayarajan has written openly about the criticisms leveled against him by former MLA P. Jayarajan within the party organisation.
Moreover, the absence of key CPI-M leaders, including state secretary MV Govindan, at the book launch function held on Monday has further fueled speculations of internal strife.
P. Jayarajan also did not attend the event.
Generally, CPI-M leaders avoid discussing internal discussions or disagreements in public.
