Shimla, Oct 12 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in Himachal Pradesh Assembly Jairam Thakur on Sunday questioned the state’s Congress government for not fulfilling its election promises despite being close to completing its three-year term.
BJP leader and former chief minister Thakur, who along with senior Congress leaders including party parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, arrived in Shimla on Monday to attend the unveiling of the statue of veteran leader Virbhadra Singh, said, βIn such a scenario, senior Congress leaders should ask about the achievements of the government and tell the people how much of their guarantees have been fulfilled.β
“Who has benefited from the guarantees? Has the government fulfilled any guarantees as promised by the Congress? The Congress leadership should also obtain and release data from the state government on how many youth have got permanent jobs, how many youth have benefited from the Rajiv Gandhi Startup Scheme, how many women have received Samman Nidhi and how much milk has been purchased from farmers at the rate of Rs 100 per kg.”
The BJP leader further asked, “When apple growers were guaranteed to set the price, why are apples getting the lowest price in 27 years?” Thakur urged the Congress high command not to get entangled in the figures given by the government.
“They should also go deeper to know the ground reality. They should ask the government why people in the state are not getting treatment under HIM CARE. Why is the government not collecting the HIM CARE fund? Why has the government even failed to provide immediate relief to the disaster affected people? Why is the Congress, which is leading the Save Constitution campaign across the country, depriving the people of Himachal Pradesh of their constitutional rights by postponing the Municipal Corporation and Panchayat elections in Himachal? Is doing. State?β BJP leader asked.
“The Congress high command should also ask the government and tell the people of the state why the pensioners are taking to the streets? What unjust rights are they demanding? Why are they not being paid their medical bills and dues? Why are the entire state suffering apart from the friends of Himachal Pradesh?” He asked question.
Thakur said that the Congress high command should also tell the people of the state why Sukh’s government, which changed the system in Himachal Pradesh, is being called the government of friends.
