Patna, October 22 (IANS) As election activity intensifies in Bihar, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, calling him “corrupt, nepotistic and a robber”.

Rai accused the RJD and its leadership of looting Bihar and oppressing the poor during their previous rule.

He alleged, “During his rule, there was a scam in the milk provided to children. The RJD government took away the rights of the poor by doing the fodder scam and people still remember this.”

The Union Minister claimed that many scams including the fodder scam were committed during the RJD rule and accused Tejashwi Yadav of misleading the public with false promises.

Rai said, “Tejashwi Yadav lies again and again, but the people of Bihar will not tolerate it anymore. This time he will be wiped out.”

Highlighting the achievements of NDA, Rai said that the NDA government has taken Bihar and the country forward on the path of development.

“The public can clearly see the difference between the corrupt past and the progress of today,” he said.

His comments came soon after Tejashwi Yadav made several key election promises targeting both Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the BJP – including regularizing contractual employees and Jeevika Didis. “Contract workers are forced to work for less than half their entitled wages and live in constant job insecurity as they can be fired at any time without any notice,” said Tejashwi Yadav.

Joining the attack, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary questioned Tejashwi’s credibility, pointing to his family’s long tenure in power. Choudhary said, “Tejashwi Yadav’s father Lalu Prasad Yadav and mother ruled Bihar for 15 years, but they could not provide even one lakh jobs.”

Accusing Lalu Prasad of corruption, he said, “He was the chancellor of ‘Charwaha Vidyalaya’ and was convicted in the fodder scam. He also snatched the lands of minorities and backward class people through the land-for-job scam.”

Meanwhile, JD(U) Speaker and MLC Neeraj Neraj termed Tejashwi’s announcements as misinformed and misleading.

He said, “Tejashwi Yadav has little understanding about contractual employees and Jeevika Didis. The Nitish Kumar government has already ensured that the funds sanctioned for outsourcing companies reach the employees directly. Moreover, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, around 31 lakh Jeevika Didis have become millionaires, who are socially and economically empowered.”
