BJP demands arrest of JMM leader for ‘buried 400 feet’ remarks against PM Modi

The Jharkhand BJP on Tuesday demanded a high-level probe and arrest of a JMM leader who allegedly made derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The party’s national spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo released a video purporting to be of JMM central committee member Nazrul Islam in which he said the prime minister “will be buried under 400 feet” in the elections instead of winning 400 seats.

PTI could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

The ruling JMM said if Mr Islam did make such a statement, it would be for show.

“Islam made derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister at a public meeting in Sahebganj on Sunday. However, the police have not taken any action against him so far,” Mr Shahdeo said.

He claimed that the opposition Indian bloc has accepted defeat in the Lok Sabha polls and that is why they are making such statements in frustration.

“We request Chief Minister Champai Soren to set up a high-level committee to investigate the incident and ensure immediate arrest of Islam. We will also report to the Election Commission on the matter,” Shahdeo said.

Bharatiya Janata Party chief Babulal Marandi claimed that the JMM’s mental balance has deteriorated seeing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) said they did not support such statements by any leader.

“If he (Islam) does make such a statement, he will be put on show by the party. We do not encourage undignified statements like the one made by the BJP,” JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey )express. He said the context of his remarks also needed to be verified.
