Bihar results: Five main findings of NDA’s victory and MGB’s defeat

New Delhi, November 14 (IANS) The ruling NDA government led by Nitish Kumar is all set to return to power with 200 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly, dealing a blow to the Grand Alliance (MGB).

The trends, which are slowly turning into results, show a clean sweep for the NDA and a humiliating defeat for the RJD-Congress led alliance.

The trend, which initially saw the NDA getting an edge over the MGB, increased day by day and is now clocking over 200. Both the BJP and JD(U) have performed better than their respective expectations and are probably hoping to put up their best performance in the assembly elections.

The BJP is also seen ahead of its ally JDU, fueling speculation about Nitish Kumar’s ‘replacement’ for the top post. Apart from the spectacular success of the NDA and the elimination of the MGB, other smaller players are also attracting the attention of election watchers due to unprecedented results.

Here are five key takeaways from Bihar Election Results 2025:

Modi-Nitish duo is making a new record

The stellar performance in Bihar elections is the result of good governance by the NDA, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assessed in his first reaction to the election results.

Taking the X, he wrote, “Good governance has triumphed. The spirit of public welfare has triumphed. Social justice has triumphed.”

Political observers are crediting this landslide victory to the ‘unstoppable’ appeal and combo of PM Modi and CM Nitish Kumar, their cordiality and their focused approach under the double engine government.

The Modi-Nitish duo not only led the NDA to victory but also took the MGB to possibly its worst ever performance. Both are seen as old warriors, defeating the young duo of Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.

While OBCs and EBCs rallied behind Nitish Kumar, PM Modi’s series of vigorous campaigns rallied youth, women and others in favor of the NDA.

RJD’s elimination and Congress’ fall

RJD leader and MGB CM candidate Tejashwi Yadav criticized the ruling NDA over its failure to stem the migration and exodus of youth from Bihar and made several promises including jobs, employment.

However, his party has received 22.79 per cent vote share, which is 2 per cent and 3 per cent more than the BJP and JD(U) respectively, but in terms of numbers, it is going to be one of the worst performances.

There is more to Congress than electoral defeat. In a direct blow to Rahul Gandhi and his ‘vote theft’ campaign, the party seems to be performing poorly in most of the constituencies where the Congress leader had campaigned to ‘awaken’ people about ‘voter fraud’. It had no impact on the ground and the shameful results once again demonstrate its failure.

First achievement of LJP led by Chirag Paswan

Chirag Paswan, who played a spoilsport for JD(U) in the 2020 elections, has proved to be a good anchor for the alliance as he is seen adding around 20 seats to the NDA’s kitty.

His party, LJP, which contested 29 constituencies, is leading in 19 seats, with a strike rate of 65 per cent. He bargained hard during the seat sharing within the NDA and seems to be proving his mettle with a surprise performance.

In 2020, his party won just 1 out of 130 seats it contested. Many election analysts had questioned Chirag’s charisma and political skills to carry forward his father’s legacy, but he has proved them wrong.

AIMIM moving towards better performance

Asaduddin Owaisi-led AIMIM is one of those opposition parties which was not a part of any faction but has managed to perform brilliantly in the assembly elections.

The party surprised by winning 5 seats in the 2020 elections and is preparing to win the same number of seats this time too.

Contesting the elections in Seemanchal region, which has a large share of Muslim population, AIMIM contested 24 assembly seats and has already won 4 seats as per Election Commission data. The party is leading on 1 other seat also.

The grand alliance, which had bet on the region in hopes of tapping into the vote bank of Yadavs and Muslims, has lagged behind in the electoral race.

Jan Suraaj’s ‘dud’ show

Prashant Kishor’s fledgling Jan Suraj, which promised to bring a new alternative to Bihar’s electoral dynamics, has proved futile. The party is nowhere to be seen in the picture and is supposed to be empty in its beginning.
