Patna, Oct 19 (IANS) After failing to reach an agreement on seat-sharing for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, the main opposition Grand Alliance is headed for friendly fights in several constituencies.
The opposition faction, comprising Congress, RJD, CPI, CPI(ML), Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), is yet to formally announce the seat-sharing distribution, raising the possibility of friendly fights in at least eight constituencies.
According to reports, RJD and Congress candidates are face to face in Lalganj, while in Kutumba assembly constituency RJD has made Suresh Paswan its candidate against Congress state president Rajesh Ram.
There is a tussle between RJD and Congress candidates in Sikandra. In Warsaliganj, RJD has made Anita Devi its candidate, while Congress has given ticket to Satish Kumar Singh.
According to the input of alliance insiders, there are about 10 seats where consensus is not being reached among the constituent parties of the grand alliance.
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) has also announced to contest the assembly elections alone, and is focusing on six constituencies.
The nomination process for the first phase of assembly elections to be held in 121 assembly constituencies in 18 districts on November 6 ended on Friday.
However, the Grand Alliance failed to finalize the seat allocation and did not announce the seat-sharing arrangement.
The filing of nominations for the second phase of elections has also increased today. With only a few days left for filing nominations, RJD, the most prominent party in the Grand Alliance, is yet to fully reveal its cards on candidates.
The Congress has declared the names of 54 candidates so far, while the CPI (ML) has fielded candidates on 20 seats – one more than the 19 seats it contested in 2020.
The first phase of Bihar assembly elections will be held on 6 November and the second phase on 11 November. Counting of votes will take place on November 14.
