Patna, October 16 (IANS) BJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary on Thursday filed his nomination papers for Bihar elections from Tarapur assembly seat in Munger district.
BJP has fielded Samrat Chaudhary as the joint candidate with NDA from Tarapur, a seat held by Janata Dal (United).
JDU MLA Rajiv Singh, who represented Tarapur in the outgoing assembly, was also present during the filing of nomination.
Despite losing his ticket due to seat allotment, Rajiv Singh expressed full support for the BJP candidate.
Hinting at unity within the NDA, he said, “Earlier Samrat used to campaign for me; now I will campaign for him with all my strength.”
A huge crowd of BJP workers and supporters gathered outside the Tarapur sub-divisional office to hail Samrat Chaudhary and raised slogans in his support.
After filing the nomination, Samrat Chaudhary said that there has been continuous development in Tarapur in the last few years under the NDA government.
He said, “The people of Tarapur have always given me immense love and support. With their blessings we will take forward the remaining development works. Our focus will be on roads, education, electricity and irrigation.”
He urged voters to ensure a massive victory for the BJP in Tarapur, saying such a mandate would help the NDA government accelerate its mission of “developed Bihar”.
Political observers say Rajiv Singh’s apparent support for Samrat Chaudhary sends a strong message of unity within the NDA, especially between the BJP and JD(U).
It is expected that the joint show of strength will make the Tarapur contest a tough challenge for the opposition.
The nomination of a high-profile candidate like Samrat Chaudhary, who has also been the BJP state president in the past, underlines the strategic importance of Tarapur for the BJP as it looks to strengthen its hold in central Bihar ahead of the November elections.
